The short version: you can browse GoNakedNZ without giving us any personal information. We use one cookie to remember that you've accepted our terms, and we don't run advertising trackers. We handle personal information in line with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.
1. Who we are
GoNakedNZ.com ("we", "us") is a New Zealand guide to naturism and clothing-optional recreation. This policy explains how we handle personal information when you use the site. It should be read alongside our Terms of Use.
2. What we collect
When you browse
You don't need to give us any personal information to use the site. Like almost every website, our web server automatically records basic technical information with each request, such as your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the date and time. We use these logs only to keep the site running, secure and free of abuse.
When you contact us or contribute
If you contact us, join our mailing list or share a place or story (once those features are available), we'll collect the details you choose to give us, such as your name, email address and message. We'll tell you why we need it at the time, and only use it for that purpose.
When you share a photo
Sharing a photo is entirely optional. If you do, we collect the photo, your real name, a nickname, where and when the photo was taken, your description, who is in it, the consents you give, and your IP address.
- Your real name and IP address are never published. Only our team sees them, so we can deal with any questions or removal requests and prevent abuse.
- Your nickname is shown with the photo only if you agree; otherwise it's shown as "Anonymous".
- We remove hidden data from the photo, such as GPS location and camera details, and resize large photos.
- Photos appear only after our team approves them. Declined photos are never published, and are deleted along with their details within 30 days.
- You, or anyone shown in a photo, can ask us to take it down at any time through our contact page. We'll remove it promptly and delete it with its details.
What we don't collect
We don't knowingly collect sensitive information, and we never require photos of you to use the site. We don't sell personal information, and we don't build advertising profiles.
3. Cookies
We use one cookie of our own:
- gnz_terms remembers that you've accepted our terms of use, so we don't ask you again on every page. It contains only a version number, not personal information, and expires after 12 months.
You can delete or block cookies in your browser settings. If you block this one, you'll be asked to accept the terms each time you visit.
We don't currently use analytics or advertising cookies. If we add analytics in future, we'll update this policy first.
We do keep a simple count of how many times each page is viewed, which is shown in the site footer. It stores only the page address and a running total: no cookies, IP addresses or anything else about you.
4. Third-party services
Some features of the site rely on other companies, who receive basic technical information (such as your IP address) when your browser connects to them:
- Google Fonts supplies the typeface used on the site. See Google's privacy policy.
- Amazon: if you follow one of our book links, Amazon may set its own cookies to track the referral and any purchase. We receive a commission report, but no personal information about you. See Amazon's privacy notice.
- Other websites we link to, such as Free Beaches NZ or Hauraki Naturally, have their own privacy policies.
5. How we use information
We use the limited information we hold to:
- run, secure and improve the site;
- remember that you've accepted our terms;
- respond to your messages and suggestions; and
- send you updates, but only if you've asked for them, with an unsubscribe link in every email.
6. Sharing and disclosure
We don't sell, rent or trade personal information. We only share it with service providers who help us run the site (such as our web host or email provider) and are required to protect it, or where the law requires it. Some of these providers may store information outside New Zealand; where they do, we take reasonable steps to make sure it is protected to a standard comparable to New Zealand law.
7. Storage and security
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from loss, misuse and unauthorised access. We keep it only for as long as we need it for the purpose it was collected, and then delete it.
8. Your rights
Under the Privacy Act 2020, you have the right to ask for access to the personal information we hold about you, and to ask us to correct it. You can also ask us to delete it, or to stop sending you emails at any time. Contact us using the details below and we'll respond as soon as we can, and within 20 working days.
9. Under-18s
This site is for adults aged 18 and over. We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe someone under 18 has given us their information, please contact us and we'll delete it.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site grows, for example when we launch our mailing list or sharing features. The "last updated" date at the top shows when it last changed.
11. Contact and complaints
For any privacy question, request or concern, please get in touch through our contact page.
If you're not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
